I already gave my opinion on what’s going at the top of the table, how about we talk about the tail end of the table? I never cared to predict what teams would go down before the start of any season because I never truly know the quality of the teams coming up. By default, I assume the teams coming up usually have a big chance of going down.
Part of the beauty of the Premier League is the fact that we could divide the league into 4 competitive mini-leagues:
- The race for the title
- The race to get in the top four
- The race to qualify for the Europa League
- The race to avoid relegation
Almost halfway through the season, here are the teams I am predicting will go down come the end of the season in no particular order:
- Swansea City
- Hull City
Let’s talk a little about these teams:
The decline of this club started with the unceremonious sacking of Garry Monk, a guy that took them to 8th position in the previous season with a record points tally for Swansea city.
After that, the state of the club has been a total mess. They have had three managers since then, the latest being former United States National Team coach, Bob Bradley.
I personally think Bob Bradley is a decent coach who did a fine job with the US National team. However, I do not feel he is the manager with the personality to take a club in the Premier League out of a crisis.
Swansea are quite good offensively, but they are a leaking pipe defensively. I predict Bob Bradley will be sacked before the season runs out and they will get relegated eventually.
You would have to be dreaming to think a team could survive the Premier League with only 15 senior players in their squad.
The fact is Hull City are a team lacking the quality, squad depth and manager required to remain in the Premier League. I strongly feel this is the team that would finish last on the table.
I am a big fan of the work Sean Dyche has done at Burnley Football Club. If I had to choose who I would like to save among Crystal Palace and Burnley, I would choose Crystal Palace without thinking twice.
This isn’t so much about what the manager has done wrong or a lack of quality in this side, it’s about me making a prediction.
This is the last pick for a team to get relegated and I had to choose between Burnley, Sunderland and Crystal Palace. I think Sunderland will do enough to scrape through as usual. Pardew has shown in his career that he can keep a team up, so I fancy Crystal Palace to stay up – unless of course, they sack Alan Pardew.
Burnley have caused some huge upsets in the league already, but they have to pick up some points away from home if they are to stand a chance of staying up. Unfortunately, they do not pick any points away from home.
Anyway, that’s all from me on the teams that will get relegated.
